Transportation Safety

A Safer Transportation System is Our Goal

NCTCOG’s position on safety is that not even one death on the transportation system is acceptable; so we support the Toward Zero Deaths (TZD) vision, a national strategy on highway safety that provides a framework for traffic safety planning efforts. The vision focuses on eliminating fatalities and serious injuries across all modes of travel. The four E’s of Transportation Safety – Engineering, Enforcement, Education, and Emergency Response – are essential to improving the safety of our regional transportation system, so we work closely with our regional partners to develop projects, programs, and policies that assist in eliminating serious injuries and fatalities and improve safety overall across all modes of travel throughout the region.
