Managing Floodplain Development through the National Flood Insurance Program (L0273)

This four-day course will describe important aspects of basic floodplain management practices. This course includes an overview of the NFIP, outreach and risk communication techniques, utilization of Flood Insurance Studies and maps to determine the flood hazard risk at given sites, and NFIP minimum floodplain requirements. This class will be offered free of charge, but participants are responsible for their own meals.
The L0273 course is separate from and not designed to be a prep course for the Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) certification exam.
Registration Instructions
FEMA requires online registration using your FEMA SID number. To obtain or look up a FEMA Student Identification (SID) number, go to https://cdp.dhs.gov/femasid. You will receive your SID number immediately online or through email confirmation. Save it in a secure location.
The FEMA SID is required on your admissions application and will also allow you to receive a certificate of completion for the L0273 course from FEMA. Once approved for the course, you will receive a follow up email with more course information and suggested pre-course study.
- To start the registration process, complete the NETC Online Admissions Application. The site is optimized for computers only and is not compatible with mobile devices.
- Throughout the application process, you will be asked for contact information such as address, phone numbers, email, and information about your current job, work experience, etc. It is best to be prepared with answers to these questions; inactivity will lead to application time out and your work will not be saved.
- You do not need to upload any attachments.
- IMPORTANT: On the Application Endorsements page, enter the following as the Head of Organization. This allows the POC to approve the registration, keep track of registrations, and send follow up emails. Do not enter your own supervisor’s information.

Once you have completed the registration process, you will receive a confirmation email stating that the course POC will approve your application. Once approved, you will receive a second confirmation email stating that you are enrolled.
