About the North Central Texas Stewardship Forum

The North Central Texas Stewardship Forum (Forum) began as an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) grant funded effort dedicated to bringing together North Central Texas (NCT) governmental and quasi-governmental organizations to share best practices, lessons learned and resources to ease the burden of developing and supporting sustainability and environmental initiatives. Having completed the grant, the participating cities and EPA acknowledge the value the Forum brings to communicating and collaborating to achieve environmental goals.

The purpose of the Forum is to:

  • Align partner initiatives
  • Leverage regional resources and share best practices
  • Provide networking and capacity building opportunities
  • Identify funding opportunities for projects
  • Provide mentorship
  • Communicate Forum initiatives and/or activities through online and social media

Forum Founding Communities and Steering Committee:

During the EPA grant, the funding communities participated in the Steering Committee, which was made up of representatives from the Cities of Dallas, Fort Worth, Denton, and Plano. These communities helped facilitate cooperation with state and federal agencies, non-governmental organizations, the NCTCOG, and commercial entities on Forum projects and priorities.

Active Participants

  • City of Dallas
  • City of Fort Worth
  • City of Plano
  • City of Denton
  • City of Lewisville

Background

The original goal of the Forum is to achieve measurable environmental benefits that contribute to the vitality of the North Central Texas economy and the quality of life of its residents. The longer term objective of the Forum is to establish and communicate successful models of cooperation that integrate stewardship principles within and between local governments, non-governmental organizations, and other stakeholders.

The Original Forum Goal Areas included:

  • Air Quality
  • Energy
  • Green Purchasing
  • Waste Management
  • Water Conservation

Over time, the Forum's goal areas have evolved to include a wider array of topics of interest based on feedback from participating communities. Other topics the Forum has explored since completing the grant include:

  • Solid Waste and Materials Management
  • Solar Energy
  • Habitat Preservation
  • Litter Abatement
  • Green Infrastructure

The Forum will continue to explore new goal areas that provide participants the opportunity to network, leverage regional resources, and share best practices to collaborate and achieve environmental and sustainability goals.
