Abstract:
This contour dataset represents a digital surface project covering 17 counties in north central Texas. The contour data are indicated by lines which depict elevations at pre-determined 2.0 foot intervals. The digital surface was developed by autocorrelating elevations from a fixed 8.0 foot ground sample distance. Contours are generalized and smoothed to reduce the number of vertices.
Purpose:
This contour representation, ordered by the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG), is intended to aid in planning and engineering studies. It is not intended to furnish measurements accurate enough for engineering design work.

Source stereo images are collected at an elevation of no more than 5500 feet above ground. theoretical design of the photogrammetric flight indicate a vertical accuracy will be achieved for an ASPRS vertical supporting 2.0' contour intervals. Contours have been generalized and smoothed which may slightly affect attributed elevation accuracy for the positional sample.
Logical_Consistency_Report:
Horizontal accuracy of all ground control identified in the contour data shows a displacement of not more than 1.5' (one and a half feet).
Completeness_Report:
Aerotriangulation results for all raw imagery was checked for horizontal accuracy. Digital auto-correlated elevations correspond to the accuracy of the aerotriangulation. NSSDA validation indicates a vertical RMSE of .54' yielding a 95% confidence of 1.06 feet vertical on the digital surface model from where the contours were generated. Subsequent contour generalizing and smoothing will affect the overall positional accuracy of the contours.

Raw image data was captured using an Intergraph Digital Mapping Camera (DMC) having a focal length of 120mm, an effective charge coupled device (CCD) array size of 168mm across track (left to right) by 95mm along track (top to bottom), and a pixel size in its panchromatic band of 12 by 12 microns. Output images were created using post-processing software which removes lens distortion and pan-sharpens color data with a panchromatic image taken at the same instant. Each image had its histogram clipped to optimize contrast, and was sliced to reduce it from a 12 bit image (4096 values per band) to an 8 bit image (256 values per band).

Stereo images were processed to automatically generated a digital elevation model. Any non-man made structures and vegetation were removed from the digital surface model. MicroStation design files containing ground elevations were clipped to eliminate overlap between stereomodels and filtered to declassify points that constituted excessively small elevation spikes. The output was saved into four column text files containing each ground elevations coordinates and classification. Text files containing the points for each model were combined into long strips to eliminate spurious edge effects during filtering and processed both manually and via filters to declassify points coincident with structures, vegetation, water, and other features that did not constitute the surface of the ground. The output was saved into LiDAR binary format (.las). LiDAR binary format files were combined into larger sized tiles and an image showing the topography's hillshade was created for each in order to perform further review and classification in TerraScan.
